Free Access to Fee-Based Resources From Gale During National Library Week

National Library Week (NLW) is next week and as we’ve seen in past years a number of information providers offer free access to a variety of fee-based resources* for the entire week and sometimes longer. We will post info other NLW”freebies” from other companies as we learn about them.

To get us started, here’s what Gale/Cengage is offering for NLW and the week after.

Free access runs through National Library Week, from April 10 to April 24, 2011. Librarians can download the widget to their homepage by visiting www.gale.cengage.com/NLW starting on April 10. Library patrons should look for the widget on their library’s homepage, which provides single-click access to these online resources.

Gale NewsVaulta specially designed online platform that enables cross-searching of Gale’s enormous range of historical newspaper and periodical collections from a single interface

Powerspeak Languages – a world language learning product that uses the research-driven powerspeaK12 language learning methodology

A Quick Response (QR) code is also available for National Library Week. After downloading a QR code-scanning app, mobile phone users can scan the QR code below with their barcode reader and automatically be taken to Gale’s National Library Week website.

* Many people who have access to a library or libraries (public, academic, school, etc.) can have free 24x7x365 access to databases from Gale and other companies. These resources are available from any computer (and sometimes smartphone or tablet) with an Internet connection. All you need is a library card and a list of databases from the library or libraries where the card can be used.
